Physical Description

Very rare miniature, [128] ff., 16mo., 92:64 mm., light age and damp staining, old hands. A very good copy bound in contemporary full leather, neatly repaired and filled.

No copy in major collections. Not listed in Zedner, nor Van Straalen (British Museum), not in Darlow & Moule, not in Roest.

 

Detail Description

Very rare miniature Bible [Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs], each page within ruled frame, points and cantillation symbols. The title bears no date, but the Latin prface by Schadeaus is dated 6 September 1591.

Elias Schadeus (1541-1593) was a Hebrew professor at Strasbourg's university.
